Picnic area with a very long tree-lined parking lot with free access, usually very quiet except during the holidays. Usually breezy and immersed in the Matera landscape and near a wind farm. Ok for a short break or for one or two nights if you are self-sufficient. There is a bar but it is not always open. NOTE: Access to the picnic area may be subject to a fee on some days, but it is always possible to access the benches and toilets as well as the parking lot. A visit to the nearby medieval town of Grottole with its castle, ruined church and its ancient neighborhoods very similar to the famous Sassi of Matera is absolutely recommended.
