Parking Vipavski Križ, Nov renewed. The hill on which the village is located was inhabited since pre-Roman times. During the Roman Empire, the road between Aquileia (Roman Aquileia through Hrušica, Roman Ad Pirum to Ljubljana, Roman Emona) was located nearby. The first written documents about the place date back to the 13th century - Duke Bernard of Carinthia donated the settlement of Villa Crucis on 29.11.1252. At the end of the 15th century, after the successful Turkish conquest of Gorizia, the then Bishop of Gorizia had a four-towered castle built, and in 1483 the Counts of Gorizia surrounded it with walls due to the danger of Turkish invasions. It was elevated to the city by Emperor Ferdinand I of Habsburg in 1532. The Holy Cross estate was purchased by Count Herman Attems from Count Henry Matthias Thurn-Valsassin in 1605. In 1636, the Attems had a Capuchin monastery built, where the famous preacher John of the Holy Cross lived and worked.
